On the one hand, media, at the present time, is playing its prominent role in entertainment. Clearly, people nowadays are living in a fast-paced and high-stress world, in which stress, pressure and even depression are all over the place. This explains the increasingly-high need of people in amusement and stress-free activities. And, media is a great and convenient way to help people reduce stress by offering a good distraction which can drain negative emotions. Watching TV series, comedies, or game shows, even just a few hours, can make a big difference in mental terms. This is the reason why when it comes to media, some people solely think of its entertainment value. |

On the other hand, the educational aspect of media should not be underestimated. It is an undeniable fact that media has certain effects on viewers, especially children and teenagers. Therefore, if the contents of television shows were frequently inappropriate, such as related to violence, bad language or sexual scenes, unwanted consequences would arise and affect negatively not only individuals but also a whole society. In order to prevent the undesirable scenario from happening, media can be enjoyable, yet informative, educational and instructive. For example, there should be more wildlife television programmes to help viewers have better understanding about the natural world, or historical documentaries to help people learn more about the past. |
