It is thought by some people that traditional museums and art galleries are no longer necessary in the modern world since they will be replaced with virtual or online-viewed ones. Personally, I totally disagree with this opinion because this would have negative influences on tourism and there are historical or artistic values that cannot be conveyed completely by technology.

Those who support the idea of having museums and art exhibitions computerised normally give arguments based on the reduction of upkeep costs and convenience for visitors. However, I believe this to be a very shortsighted view. It is a fact that conventional museums or art exhibitions are one of the most attractive factors to draw the attention of international tourists. Louvre museum in Paris, France would be a great example of this. Therefore, stop opening museums or art exhibitions would cause great damages for not only tourism but also economic development, especially to countries most reliant on the travel industry.

Additionally, there are experiences and values which online-based museums or art galleries cannot bring to visitors as satisfactorily as the real ones. It is undoubted that firsthand experience is more interesting than the imagined experience. This explains why paying a visit to a real museum or art exhibition is always unforgettable. Also, seeing historical objects and works of art directly through one's eyes helps people to actually feel and to be deeply moved, rather than just reading information on online versions.

In conclusion, no matter how strongly technology in computerisation has developed nowadays, underestimating the significant role of real museums and art galleries and having virtual versions replaced would bring unwanted impacts to the tourism sector, as well as cause dissatisfaction in history discovery and art enjoyment.
