Sample answer
The chart provides the number of visitors who access Google and Yahoo in comparison with top 10 social networking sites (SNSs) in the USA, measured in millions over a period from January 2004 to June 2006.
Overall, Yahoo was the most widely viewed site throughout the period, and Google was the second most accessed website. In addition, SNSs experienced the most dramatic growth.
At the start of the period, the figures showed a noticeable difference in the popularity of the three sites, as Yahoo and Google received around 100 and 60 million visitors per day (MVPD) respectively, while the data of SNSs was lower, at roughly 20 MVPD. Thereafter, the SNS remained relatively stable until around January 2005, after which they saw more significant growth, doubling over the next year, and ended the period at just over 80 MVPD.
With regard to Yahoo and Google, both grew in terms of visitor numbers. Although the increase of the former was rather slight as it just rose to under 120 MVPD, the latter’s rise was more rapid, standing at just over 110 MVPD in the final year shown in the graph.
